Goliath sighed as he walked through the door and found himself and his alternate in the hospital cafeteria. "I meant to get something to eat, but I'd forgotten."

A young nurse came up behind them and gently poked gargoyle Goliath in the wing. "Excuse me, please. I need coffee NOW."

Goliath exchanged a glance with his small friend, then looked over and gently adjusted Lex's blanket as he said, "They were, up until the last days of Dr. Severus's trial."

This time, Goliath can't hide his surprise. "Sevarius, on trial? Will wonders never cease?"

"On trial, and now in prison without parole. Though it was difficult to convince the court that it is indeed possible to transform a human being into something else." Goliath rubbed his chin absently, eyes on Lex.

"A difficult task indeed. But it is good to hear that at least one universe is free from his menace."

His own, naturally, was free from Demona, though Thailog and Sevarius still counted on the threat meter, as did the Pack.

He could not possibly be considering...!

"But you didn't ask how it was proven." Goliath looked at him. "Nor what sort of doctorate Doctor Lucy holds."

"Good grief." Lucy put her face in her hand, though she was visibly amused despite her worry.

"Very true," Goliath said. "So, I suppose I shall have to. How was it proven?"

"I changed myself from a dying little cripple to this," said Lucy without taking away her hand.

"Jalapena," Goliath said, borrowing Elisa's exclamation. "You took quite the chance. I would have thought the transformation to traumatic for one near death."

"Wasn't that near. I still had about five years before the involuntary nervous system shut down." She sighed and straightened from the drawn up position that she'd absently pulled herself into. "The muscle control was pretty much gone, though. I really didn't have a lot to lose."

"Where there is life, there is hope. But that life takes many forms... be it human, Gargoyle, or mutate."

"Yes, indeed," Goliath agreed, his eyes going back to Lex.

"And I don't think I did quite the same thing as Sevarius." Lucy tried to distract him again by resuming the story. "I'm different from the others. But I really couldn't work out how he'd gotten a third pair of limbs on a basic quadriform mammal."

"I am afraid I could be of no help there," Goliath added. "None of us understand the mutate-process and frankly... Our interests in it is from a cute standpoint, rather than creating others."

"That's alright." She grinned a little absently. "If everyone was a geneticist I'd have a hard time finding work."

Goliath started and leaned toward Lex's bed.
