Remieverse - Quiet Night

Remie hummed a soft, merry Cajun tune as she carefully wiped down every glass, tap, and countertop at the bar, cleaning up while the buisness was quite. As usual a few familes were inside, enjoying a relaxing meal, and in the corner a couple men were anxiously watching the football game on a television, sharing nachos and beer and playfully warning eachother occassionally about getting drunk when the owner's wife was around.

Remie smiled to herself as a hand fell to her budding stomach, the smooth, growing lump warm and seeming to emmit its own energy. She smiled fondly, then sighed happily and sat with a virgin margurita to take the weight off her feet for a moment.

Ettiene frowned hazily. "Where... where dis be? Why I be hearin' Cajun voices?"

"'Cause you in New Orleans," Remie laughed softly as she stroked the back of his head and dabbed his forehead again, gently pressing a few pressure points to help ease the pain. "Easy, mon ami, try n' relax. Schalk, go get some asprin. Extra strength."

"Ja, Leibe." He stood and went to do so.

Ettiene watched him go. "Swamp angel...." Then his bleary hazel eyes turned to Remie. "You... look like de Gambit."

"I am," she smiled and put down the towel, looking over at the girl. "Would you go behind the counter, please? There's a blanket under there."

Tony nodded and hurried over to do so, glad for something to do other than praying and feeling scared.

"Gambit a homme." Ettiene frowned. "Bot' de ones I know."

Remie took it greatfully. "Dere a few of us runnin' round, chere," she smiled gently. "I jus' be one o' de femmes o' de bunch.

She tucked the blanket over him. "Now, mon ami, what happen t' you?"

"Like Wolvie." Sorrow passed over his face.

Tony knelt out of the way again, watching as the big winged guy brought the pill bottle and a glass with a straw.

Remie smiled and took them, kissing his cheek.

"Open up," she said soothingly, back next to the giant man. "Dese'll help."

He opened his mouth obediently, then swallowed and pulled a slight face at the taste of the pills.

"Here," she insterted then straw, then looked at them thoughtfully. "Honey, oui, what's yoh name, sweetheart?" she looked at the girl.

She looked up with a little start, then lowered her eyes back to the man. "Tony Lefever, ma'am."

Ettiene drank deeply, but then choked and put a hand up to squeeze his nose as he groaned slightly.

Remie forwned and and massaged the back of his head again beofre nodding warmly. "Den I insist, Tony, dat you wit me n' ma husband. We got a couple extra rooms, n' you can stay long as you wan'."

She blinked. "But ya don' eben know me."

"I learn how t' read people 'long time ago," she said gently, smiling. "You need t' stay here, petite. In de mornin', if you wan, I can show you a couple places t' make dis a real vacation. But," she paused and looked out as the last of the families rose, paid the bill, and left. "It ain' de bes' time o' night for a femme t' be strollin' about alone. You stay one night, at de leas'."

Then she looked at the big man severely. "An' I gots no idea what we gon' do wit you, army boyo."
