Remieverse - Quiet Night

Remie hummed a soft, merry Cajun tune as she carefully wiped down every glass, tap, and countertop at the bar, cleaning up while the buisness was quite. As usual a few familes were inside, enjoying a relaxing meal, and in the corner a couple men were anxiously watching the football game on a television, sharing nachos and beer and playfully warning eachother occassionally about getting drunk when the owner's wife was around.

Remie smiled to herself as a hand fell to her budding stomach, the smooth, growing lump warm and seeming to emmit its own energy. She smiled fondly, then sighed happily and sat with a virgin margurita to take the weight off her feet for a moment.

Remie frowned a bit, then sighed. "Tell 'im t' clean his own table n' dishes n' we call it even," she said. "N' next time we checkin' his wallet 'fore we fill an order."

Then she looked at the man. "What's yoh name, boyo?"

"Ettiene...." His face twitched as his eyes slid shut. His breathing was still rough and labored.

"Gotcha, shugah." Marie turned and went to deliver the message.

"Something's happening." Schalk pointed his ears toward the semi-conscious marine.

Remie nodded. "Hey, sir, open up de eyes. Lookit me, Ettiene, what's goin' on? How bad you hurt?"

His ears went back when the big man failed to reply and he leaned forward and gave him a decided poke in the side.

Ettiene winced and turned his head slightly. "Ow... wha...?"

Tony huddled down slightly and prayed. Hard.

"Mon amour, I tink we better get him to a hospital," she frowned deeply, worried for him.

Schalk nodded and got to his feet. "The blood vessels in his brain don't sound right. Vill you call und let them know ve're coming?"

"Oui, of course," she said, taking out her cell phone, then looking over.

"Marie, her food on de house. When she done, show her de guest bedroom upstairs, alright?" she said. "If she really don' wanna stay here, can you take her to the hotel up the street? I don' want her wanderin' 'lone t'night. You know de shadey strangers dat show up 'round here at dis time o' year."

"Sho thing, shugah." The light-hearted waitress was frowning slightly with concern, but she turned to look at Tony, who was too focused on what was going on to notice her.

"Easy, freund," rumbled Schalk as he gently bundled Ettiene into the blanket and lifted him.

The marine groaned and muttered again in feen, then put a hand to his head. "...Tried blowin' m' brains out m' ears...."

Schalk gave Remie an alarmed look.

"Yeah, let's go," she said, calling in before going and holding open the door for her husband.. "911? Yoh, we be arrivin' in a few minutes wit' a big ol' marine who's got majo' damage done t' his noggin'. You'll need t' be ready t' recieve quick like."

Tony watched them go, then curled her legs against her chest and just sat there for a moment.

Schalk paused outside the door, then looked at Ettiene and decided to climb the wall instead of leaping into the air as he usually did. Before he went up he wrapped the semi conscious man in one wing and held the other out to his wife.

"Make sure you don' take more than you can carry," she smiled.
