Other Gargoyles-verse: Hospital: Checking Up

The ability to travel freely and unmolested in the modern world was a new enough concept to be novel to Goliath.  For Elisa, it was nearly heartbreaking.  She'd lost this world.  She held no reservations about the fact that she'd become a Gargoyle.  Though she had lost much, her relationship with Goliath, the Clan, and the lives she'd help save more than made up for it.

All the same, being able to simply walk through a human hospital and get only the occasional odd glance (some of which was no doubt due to their resemblance to the very human Goliath and Elisa Maza of this world), was a miracle indeed.

"Hope ah, Lex is okay..." Elisa said.

The other side of the coin. A human Elisa with a human Goliath to play multiversal counterpoint to the Gargoyle Elisa and her Gargoyle Goliath. Life was strange sometimes.

"She has always been beautiful to me," Goliath said.

Elisa smiled. And I'd forgotten how good I looked with eyebrows."

She reached up to touch one of the attributes in question, then smiled at Goliath and mused that she kind of missed hers like that.

-Though I'd never trade the Big Guy as he is now for anything.-

"So... just dropped in for a visit, huh?"

"We wanted to see how your Lex was doing," Elisa replied.

"Even with our own troubles," Goliath added, "the situation here weighed heavily upon my mind."

"Yeah well...." She looked into the bright but tired and confused eyes of the young man in question. "It's getting better."

"Mother." Franklin tipped his head back to look at her and she actually felt a spurt of affection for the big dumb lug.

"Yeah, Frank?" She smiled at him.

"Lex talked." Franklin's chin moved as he squared his jaw. "I heard him!"

Too weird, Elisa thought.

Aloud, she said. "He's right, you know. Lex did talk."

"That's great!" She was over by the bed as fast as she could walk, and laughing slightly as he tried to smile but wound up with only a ghost of his usual cocky/shy grin. "Good work, Lex." She kissed him gently on the forehead and repressed a smile at the involuntary squeak that came from him.

Elisa slipped her hand into her Goliath's and shared a smile with him. This was just one more bit of proof that nearly any adversity could be overcome.

"Can't believe we were here when this happen."

"You were the reason it happened," said Franklin, looking up from where he still sat on the floor. "He was surprised because he didn't know that Father had a brother either."

Lex just blushed slightly and got his grin to work a little better as humanElisa chuckled and gently slugged his shoulder.

Elisa sighed and smoothed Lex's hair back. "I wish I could stay around and visit. But Mom and Dad are at our place. They'll be coming to see you tomorrow, so don't party too late, huh?"

Lex got his eye muscles to obey him and rolled them good-naturedly.

Elisa kissed him again, feeling that embarrassing maternal surge that had had her fussing at a bemused Goliath this morning. "And Goliath's coming by after work. I'll see you later, alright."

"Sure," he whispered, then grinned as he realized that he'd gotten the word out.

She grinned at him, then patted his shoulder and walked over to Franklin, who hastily stood and told his heart brother and Hudson good bye before turning to the visiting gargoyle couple.

Goliath gave him a smile. "It was good to see you again, Franklin. And you as well, Elisa."

Elisa smiled as well. "What he said. Only without the again part." And to her counterpart, "I'd say give 'em my best, but that would just be confusing, eh?"
