Other Gargoyles-verse: Hospital: Checking Up

The ability to travel freely and unmolested in the modern world was a new enough concept to be novel to Goliath.  For Elisa, it was nearly heartbreaking.  She'd lost this world.  She held no reservations about the fact that she'd become a Gargoyle.  Though she had lost much, her relationship with Goliath, the Clan, and the lives she'd help save more than made up for it.

All the same, being able to simply walk through a human hospital and get only the occasional odd glance (some of which was no doubt due to their resemblance to the very human Goliath and Elisa Maza of this world), was a miracle indeed.

"Hope ah, Lex is okay..." Elisa said.

He gave the ghost of his grin, but all the activity had worn him out. He wasn't ready to sleep yet, but all the big accomplishments were being put away for when he had more physical energy.

Hudson saw the change in his face and put a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Ye mun creep before ye kin walk, lad. Small steps."

Lex nodded, then looked toward his visitors again.

"What Hudson said," Elisa said. "Take it easy, Lex."

He gave another slight nod, then looked back and forth between the two of them and lifted his eyebrows questioningly. Maybe he wouldn't understand most of the story, but he wanted to hear it.

She smiled and prepared to launch into storytelling mode.

"All right. You remember the whole mess with Demona and Puck? When she stole Titania's Mirror to enslave him? Well, things mostly played out the same way in our world as it did here with... one little difference."

Going back over that memory was always hard, no matter how much she'd come to accept herself or the new life she'd forged. "Demona had ordered Puck to get rid of 'the human, Elisa Maza, forever.' Guy did what he could, playing up the loophole to get rid of the human Elisa... but not much he could do about the forever part. Everyone else got to go back to normal... except for me."

The small teen's eyes showed that he'd understood at least part of the story, they burned with anger.

"Och," said Hudson softly, his hand going back to Lex's shoulder as he looked at Elisa.

And a tiny baby voice squealed from the door.

"Look," she said, "I don't deny that it was rough going. Especially at first. But I don't need anybody getting upset or angry on my account. Far as I'm concerned, everything worked out damn good."

She stopped at the sound of the baby voice, and looked toward the source.

"Help!" said Emily, trying to keep her grip on an excitedly flailing little pale bluish gargoyle baby.

It was the first time Elisa had seen an infant Gargoyle and it brought back to her mind the egg waiting for them back home. Goliath was more familiar, and therefore less surprised.

"Here," Goliath said, stepping forward. "Allow me to take her."
