Other Gargoyles-verse: Hospital: Checking Up

The ability to travel freely and unmolested in the modern world was a new enough concept to be novel to Goliath.  For Elisa, it was nearly heartbreaking.  She'd lost this world.  She held no reservations about the fact that she'd become a Gargoyle.  Though she had lost much, her relationship with Goliath, the Clan, and the lives she'd help save more than made up for it.

All the same, being able to simply walk through a human hospital and get only the occasional odd glance (some of which was no doubt due to their resemblance to the very human Goliath and Elisa Maza of this world), was a miracle indeed.

"Hope ah, Lex is okay..." Elisa said.

"Yes." Delilah smiled, then looked down at her jacket with concern.

"Och." Hudson started forward. "Have ye the babes?"

"Yes. Maggie asked me to take care of them." She frowned and unzipped the coat, then took out two little balls of fur with big blue eyes. "I don't know why they're unhappy. She fed them before she gave them to me... and their diapers are clean."

"Babies!" cheered Lex softly.

Elisa blinked at yet another surprise.

"Oh, God... they're adorable!" It takes her a moment before she can speak again and when she does, she shakes her head. "Derek and Maggie have both said that they weren't going to try for kids... because they'd be Mutates..."

"Aye, and Talon still vows that they never will... when he's not looking like the greatest of loving fools as he cuddles these 'n their elder sister." Hudson took the bigger of the two little black fuzzies and offered him to her.

The little one, not much more than a month old, frowned at her, then screwed up his little face and squeaked piteously.

"Ohhhhhh!" said Chelsea in sympathy, looking at him as she lay her head against Goliath's chest.

Elisa laughed at that. "Oh that's Derek all over all right."

She looked at the one still in Delilah's arms. "Can I... can I hold him?"

Hudson handed over the one he had, and the tiny boy stopped squeaking to blink and then put his little nose to Elisa as he tried to figure out the scent. Smelled like aunty... but not quite? Aunty enough. He yawned hugely and snuggled, purring.

And Lex chuckled softly.

She smiled and held him close, awestruck by the tiny little person in her arms.

"Oh, you're... you're amazing, little guy," she said. She exchanged a smile with Goliath. "Not too much longer and we'll be doing this with one of our own."

He smiled and nodded. "It will be magical, my love."

"Lossa baba." Chelsea sighed and reached over to run gentle little claws through the baby's fur. "Mine!"

Lex cleared his throat and gave Delilah a hopeful look, and she chuckled and lay the smaller twin on his chest, then stepped back and watched as Emily moved the bed tray aside and helped him to put an arm around the little one.

"You are right, Chelsey," Goliath told her, very gently moving her arm away from the baby Elisa was holding. "Now now, you must be careful with your..."

"Cousin," Elisa supplied. "Or close enough, anyway."

"Aye. Close enough," said Hudson softly as Chelsea looked up at Goliath seriously. "Though yon wee lassie in yer arms calls yer twin brother 'grandpa' as much as she does me. Then he glanced at the little boy that Elisa held. "That's Peter. 'N the babe with Lex is Hadassah."

Elisa smiled. "Peter and Hadassah, eh? I like it."

Goliath smiled as well, as he looked down at Chelsea. "Do you now?"

"Ditditditdit," she told him softly, dark eyes serious.

"Well," he said, "I believe we can forgive it."

"Oh?" her little brow ridges lifted quizzically, then drew together with concern as Peter fussed quietly.

Goliath stroked her hair. "Absolutely," he said with a smile.

Elisa, meanwhile, was gently tickling her almost nephew's belly.
