Other Gargoyles-verse: Hospital: Checking Up

The ability to travel freely and unmolested in the modern world was a new enough concept to be novel to Goliath.  For Elisa, it was nearly heartbreaking.  She'd lost this world.  She held no reservations about the fact that she'd become a Gargoyle.  Though she had lost much, her relationship with Goliath, the Clan, and the lives she'd help save more than made up for it.

All the same, being able to simply walk through a human hospital and get only the occasional odd glance (some of which was no doubt due to their resemblance to the very human Goliath and Elisa Maza of this world), was a miracle indeed.

"Hope ah, Lex is okay..." Elisa said.

"I'm in the equivalent 'o me sixties. She's thirty in five days." He shook his head.

She frowned. "That's not... Okay, it is a pretty big difference. But humans do it all the time."

"Do they?" He didn't come out.

"Granted, it's usually young women going after older men because they're more interested in their money... But I don't think you've got that problem."

"Nay." His voice sounded ready to break again.

Elisa was beginning to wish she'd sent Goliath up here and stayed with the kids. He knew Hudson better, she'd only real known him a bit over two years.

She was, for the moment, at a loss for what to say.

"It... jes' seems wrong. But t' see the lass's eyes shining so...." He shook his head, unable to express how his heart was touched despite his convictions about their ages and races.

"Funny thing," she said. "I noticed you knew when her birthday was. Pretty... interesting, for someone you claim to want to avoid."

Even with his head lowered and half hidden by his wings she could see his ear darken in a blush.

Points for her. "Okay, that's the age thing. And species... Look, that is a big hurdle. But it can be overcome."

"I ken yer birthday too," he nearly growled.

"Do I need to remind you you're talking to the poster child for feelings in denial here?"

"She's nae need tae be chasin' an auld man, when there's one 'o her aune age 'n race!" He lifted his head and scowled at her.

Momentarily shocked by the outburst, she actually lost her balance for a moment before regaining it.

"What do you want me to say here, Hudson?"
