Other Gargoyles-verse: Hospital: Checking Up

The ability to travel freely and unmolested in the modern world was a new enough concept to be novel to Goliath.  For Elisa, it was nearly heartbreaking.  She'd lost this world.  She held no reservations about the fact that she'd become a Gargoyle.  Though she had lost much, her relationship with Goliath, the Clan, and the lives she'd help save more than made up for it.

All the same, being able to simply walk through a human hospital and get only the occasional odd glance (some of which was no doubt due to their resemblance to the very human Goliath and Elisa Maza of this world), was a miracle indeed.

"Hope ah, Lex is okay..." Elisa said.

The crying continued for a few minutes, but then faded to sobby little hiccups as the tiny girl snuggled and fell asleep.

Lucy raised her eyebrows. "Well, I guess that's an argument in favor of her being with Hudson."

"She'd do better with both of you," Elisa said, before she could stop herself.

Lucy sighed and looked toward her tiny kitchen. "Do you want coffee or something?"

"That'd be nice. If it's not any trouble."

"No trouble. I need some myself." She put together her old fashioned stove top perker, then looked toward the door as someone knocked. "Oh great, there's a neighbor."

"Want me to get that?"

"Yes, please," she said apologetically. "If it's Carl you'll have better luck talking to him than I will."

Elisa went to the door and opened it a crack so she could peer out. "Yes...?"

Hudson looked back, browridges lifted as he dripped on the hallway floor. "How are they?"

She shouldn't have been surprised, but she was. "The baby's fussy, but fine," she said, opening the door wider. "Lucy... less so."

"Och." He stepped back and shook vigorously, then stepped inside, his eye going around the apartment.

Lucy looked up to see who'd come in, then dropped the coffee pot, which partially landed on her foot, but smashed. "Aiiii!"

"Er... sorry..." Elisa mumbled. "I shouldn't have... Are you okay?"

"No, no, I was just startled... um, I'm bleeding," said Lucy, wincing as the baby started to cry again.

Hudson hurried over and lifted her clear of the broken glass and scattered coffee grounds, then set her on the counter and grabbed a tea towel to carefully wipe away the blood.

Elisa fussed over the baby, trying to get her to settle. "Ssssh. It's okay, sweetie. Everything's all right."
