Josh's Reality: STAR Labs, Gordon Family Compound: Invitations

Lar--who'd been spending much of his time exploring various portions of the multiverse--arrived outside the complex, having teleported into the universe high in orbit.  He wasn't quite sure how one got a message across multiversal lines, but Josh somehow had.  He'd asked Lar to come celebrate, but not specified what.

Still, he was always happy to come see a friend.  His feet touched down on the ground with barely a sound.

Jaime nestled in her seat, her small size making it possible for her to curl her feet beneath her comfortably as she gazed at the screen and absently offered Lar a hand containing three of her precious sweetmeats.

"Here we go," whispered Jenny as the music started.

Lar took one and ate it, mouthing his thanks to Jamie as he did.

The opening teasers passed, including one for the movie whose poster they'd read, and then came the start of the movie, with a narrator explaining the thus far as snippets of the previous movies played.

Jaime's eyes were round as saucers. She'd watched movies with her nephews, but she'd never seen on on a massive screen that curved around the sides of a room before.

Lar watched as well, with rapt attention. They'd long progressed past 2-D entertainment on his homeworld, but this... this was something truly magical to him.

The actual story flowed seamlessly from the thus far, and Jaime forgot her candies, which stained her hand red as she watched, enraptured.

Then something blew up on the screen and she jumped a foot and gave a little shriek. Hisses and curses came from various parts of the theater, followed by angrily muttered comments.

"Cut her some slack," snapped Jenny. "She's never seen a movie before."

That got a bit of sympathy, but of course it got more snide remarks, too.

Lar had managed to shoot off a couple dirty looks as well. Gently and hopefully unobtrusively, he reached out, placing an arm around Jamie's shoulders in what he hoped was a comforting fashion.

She absently ate the candies in her hand, then leaned against him and drew her knees up to her chest, pulling her long skirt down over them as she glanced around before smiling at Jenny's pat and returning her attention to the screen.

Lar's happy to let this happen. Good company, a nice girl leaning against him, and a movie.

There were a few more incidents of squeaks and bitten back exclamations, and one handful of popcorn that flew down over the rows ahead of them as Josh started at something and startled her, but the rest of the movie was spent in engrossed silence. It was a good story, well thought out. Anyone without super intelligence or a severely deductive mind would have been surprised by a couple of the plot twists, too.

"Fascinating," Lar whispered, as the credits started to roll.

"Wait for the bloopers," murmured Josh as people started getting up and leaving.

"The whatnow?" Jaime looked at him from where she was still hiding against Lar's shirt from the sad scene.

"I'm... not familiar with that word either."

And then the aforesaid part of the show came on and Jaime was chuckling helplessly against his side as Josh snorted appreciatively over such contrived scenes as robots forgetting their lines and accidentally saying 'oh @#$%&!' and such.

Lar too was laughing, harder than he'd laughed in some time.
