"This... this is not funny."

With a voice devoid of accent Sal found herself suddenly not at home, returning to her living room after a bathroom break while watching reruns of Avatar: The Last Airbender. If the place had been a nexus or something she was more familiar with she would have been perfectly okay with the entire situation.

Except that this was not a room, not a nexus, and not a cafe. It was a cave. She wasn't a fan of caves. They were gross and earthy and just... well... gross. This cave wasn't drippy or anything, but she still didn't like it. She growled to herself and walked awhile until she found a large French door. Which was weird in and of itself. She wrenched it open and found her feet on green grass.

"Where the hell am I?" She looked around at the enormous valley spread out around her.

This is surreal...

He finally closed his mouth and blinked. "He's alright. Kal went against Vau for nothing."

Sal folded her arms. "Good. Vau needed his ass kicked."

"Yeah." Fi swallowed. "And Pi's with you? Leeroy and Jav?"

"Yep. Scrat's around too, livin' in his own place now but he comes by from time t' time. And Ven'd be me next-door neighbour, but his house has a hole in it, so he's livin' with us til it gets fixed."

The slight bombshell of Ven and Scrat was dropped as subtly as possible, but Sal still expected Fi to flip out over it.

"But... I saw.... Sarge, I saw Ven after...." Fi's dark eyes begged for an explanation.

Then he gulped and reached out to poke her again, making sure he wasn't talking to a ghost.

"I know. But they're all okay: Scrat, Ven, Sadri - they're fine. We're not sure exactly what happened - we think your reality branched or somethin', 'cause it happened to me, too - to you I should be dead. But here I am."

And Ven. "How'd he die back there?" she asked quietly. All she'd known is that he'd died.

"Shot himself," he said automatically, still trying to absorb everything she was saying. "We could hardly get his arms away from General Oboa."

Now it was Sal's turn to be shocked.
