Terra Tunn: The Castle on the Plain: In the Library

Saki sat. One hand was over her stomach, the other holding one of her books. The were scattered on the windowseat and floor around her. The sun beat on her gently, and she smiled, looking down at her belly and reaching again for the comfort her husband had impressed upon her about it. It had been extremely hard for her to adjust to the growing belly, and for her to maintain eatting healthy and giving into food cravings, Layka's harsh lessons on body and appearance nagging at her even as she firmly worked to take care of her babe.

She didnt think she would have made it without Jubal, and smiled again as she thought of him. She couldn't wait to hand him his first child.

"Totally possible," said Jubal softly, his bright eyes unusually serious. "And you won't find a mean guy on the planet, unless it's one of the Earth humans that visit sometimes. These two just didn't wind up married because they're related to the women of the family, and nobody ever came here with husband finding on her mind."

"I... I don't think they would have me. I am not one of them and... I wouldn't know how," Layka said, head ducking.

-Can you help her?- Saki looked at Jubal, wide-eyed. -All she's ever wanted was a husband....-

He turned his head slightly as he heard one of the men in question come into the main room accompanied by a few of the children.

"What do you think of Kev?" he asked Layka as he mentally called to the big man to come into the room where they were.

Layka went bright red. "He... he is quite wonderful... very nice and handsome... but... he wouldn't like me. I... I'm not the type a man like him should end up with." She looked down, pushing the tears from her eyes. She couldn't imagine being with any of the wonderful men in this world.
