"The last time I did this," Jeimu grunts as she walks up to the compound gate with bags and boxes in hand, "I was fresh from space and couldn't walk. Now I really should be thinking of the baby, but I'm sure she's tough..."

She looks over her shoulder at Jav and Vic, who are managing the several casserole dishes and tinfoil-covered pans of food she's also brought along rather well.

"Hey!" she calls out. "My hands are full, I can't ring the doorbell!"

Of course she could do it telekinetically, but she's feeling lazy.

Jeimu can pick that much up from her telepathy, and she winces.

"But you're not allowed to cry over it," she says with a grin. "That only works when you're small. And wearing bunny hats." She blows the ear of the hat he'd given her out of the way of her face.

He chuckles and gently flips the ear back behind her head with one thumb. "Only the weak do not weep."

Then he sits up and looks down at the femme who sleeps in her nest of life support, his expression sobering.

"She's doing well," Jeimu says, angling herself so that she could see. "I think you should go talk to her."

"As well as can be expected." There are centuries of love in his voice as he gently touches Elita's tiny face with one finger. "She's always been strong. My poor darling."

"I think that's one of your guys' defining characteristics," Jeimu offers quietly. "Strength."

"I nearly broke," he rumbles, his optics darkening slightly.
