World Outside Time: Four days later: Wedding

Firecracker watched as Sir James and Anmut exchanged rings, her fingers twitching with the urge to pet the hunter green velvet tunic that Sir James wore with black pants and a brown cloak with red satin lining. Next to him, Anmut wore a long strip of white satin wrapped around her body to make something that wasn't quite a dress but looked something like one with sideslits.

The funny coat and collar bowed, then clapped invisable hands together and turned to a page in the big Book which Sir James and Anmut wrote in. Firecracker's mama wrote in it next, and then everyone turned to her.

"Yer turn, lass," rumbled Sir James, smiling.

Firecracker blinked in alarm. "But I can't write."

Jubee nodded and bit her lip, and sniffed as he was lifted up and away. dripping some of the same blood that covered her hands.

She lifted them to the light, staring in horror and amazement and fear.

Sir James pulled her close. "Shh, Joy, he'll be right before too long. Y'll be goin' home soon."

She felt herself pulled into a hug, and that helped, but then she swallowed.

"But... but what about you? And Amnut? And Firecracker?" she said, looking up at him with eyes glistening with tears.

"This is our place, lass. T'was created fer me so I could rest 'n spend my last days in peace. Anmut was brought here t' save me from myself. 'N the lass... she's not fer the world, y'kin see it. You needed rest 'n healin', but now yer ready t' go back 'n be the light ye were always ment t' be." He stroked her hair. "Dinnae weep, Joy."
