Logan ducked, then winced and looked up, eyes wide.

"What the-?" he winced, then tried to push the mech's hands away, wanting to go over and see what it was. "Hey, are you alright?"

Ratchet sighs and steps back, then glances down at Logan and Mara.

Mara had slumped against the leg of the table, tears dry on her face and fingers absently combing Logan's now perfect hair. The boy was a deathly shade of gray, but all his vitals were stable, and only indicated that he was very deep in sleep.

Mara blinked, then slowly looked up.

"Is Jubal ok?" she asked softly.

"He's alive," says Ratchet gruffly, hunkering down to speak to her on a more polite level. "I'm still uncertain how long that will last."

"Great bedside manner, Ratch." Mac rolls his eyes.

"I don't suppose you know any telepaths?" Mara said softly, grief and fear heavy in her voice.

He shakes his head, his hand going toward her to offer comfort.

"He's not my son," she said softly, looking down at him. "He can't be that much younger than me... but I can't loose him... I can't think he's going to... not so far from home."

"I wish I could offer more help," says the yellow mech, feeling helpless.

"He's so big," she said softly, as if she hadn't heard him. "Big... and he looks like his father, doesn't he?"

Ratchet compares the bone structure of both men and nods. "I see a resemblance to yourself too."

"Yes," she said softly, then closed her eyes and bowed her head. "But more like him."

She looked down at Logan and stroked his cheek. Did he know his father? Was his mother somewhere, waiting for him to return? She brushed his sleeves off. He was dressed in dark clothing, Like Jubal used to. Lines under his eyes, again like his father's, but not so deep. Something was hurting him, she could tell, and it made her heart ache.

"He's in some sort of... mental link, with... Jubal?"

"Yes," she said, inhaling. "Jubal was a moderate empath... at least, the one I knew was. Logan... he's extremely gifted with empathic abilities, to the point that he's got low-level telepathic skill. I think... I think he's trying to give Jubal strength mentally. If the body's been this badly injured, there's a chance the mental mind's worse. And if you loose the mind... the body can follow."

She closed her eyes. "Most normal-abled telepaths won't attempt it."

"So this is a foolish risk." Ratchet's mouth goes into a straight line.

"Yes," she said softly, tears appearing in her eyes as she touched his cheek. "But he's a good boy. He'd do it. If he's anything like his father was..." she stopped and wiped her eyes.
