World Outside Time: Jubilee two days later

Jubee sighed, shivering slightly and pulling the blankets around her and Anmut tighter, attempting to battle the reverse fever that had Anmut cold, clammy, and sick. Nevertheless Jubee wouldn't have left her side for anything, wanting to try to warm her with her own heat, even though she felt like complete and utter crap as well.

In his chair Sir James stirred a bit, growling to himself and watching over them tirelessly, even though the chair he'd picked had to be awfully uncomfortable.

Jubee sighed, then sneezed, an action that made her grunt with pain before she let herself snuggle against Anmut. No matter how cold or clammy she got, she was still all Jubee had in reach that she trusted and loved.

"Wolvie?" she finally murmured, wondering if the man had fallen asleep on her yet.

"Aye?" His chair creaked as he looked up.

"Are you gonna admit you love Anmut now, or do I have to ask something else until next time?"

"What're ye talkin' about, Joy?" He frowned.

"I mean, you said you couldn't feel nuthin anymore but then Anmut almost died and you were really really upset which means you do love her you just don't know it or you do know it and you're just afraid and don't want to do it but's really ok because whatever is true it means that you can feel ok again and since you do care about Anmut it's good because you'll never have to worry about loosing her again," she shrugged.

He turned and stared at her. "Lass, I didn' understand a word o' that. Try again, but breath this time."

He got up and leaned over her, glaring. "I'll hear no more 'o that talk. Ye've years ahead 'o ye, 'n ye'd better live 'em ta the full."

"Like I've lived them in the past? That's gotten me far," she said bitterly, snuggling in.

"Lass...." He tried to say more, but his throat wouldn't make the sound, so instead he sat on the side of the bed and picked her up against his shoulder. "Lass, y' ask me t' live, 'n then ye speak 'o yer death."

"That's different. The only one who'd give a crap about me if I died would be Logan or Jean, if she was alavie and he wasn't feral or in Japan. Anmut needs you, and you need her. You have a time to die, you have to live until that time."

"I'll care when ye do." He looked at her evenly.

She turned away.

"I care about life. You need to care about Anmut."

He gently seized her chin and turned her face back toward his, making her meet his eyes. She could see the old hurt there, the emptiness. And a pleading, sorrowful look that reached out to her heart.

"Stop," she whispered, eyes filling with tears as she looked up at him, her own eyes empty of everything but pain. "Please, you're hurting me, Wolvie."

"Get vhat, Leibling? Do vhat?" Anmut held her close, trying to focus through the sickness.

"Care," Jubee hiccuped. "Care about life... and love... and he said he won't until I do but I can't and he can!"

"Vhy...." Anmut's ears went back and her shaking increased. "Ach!"

"Please don't. Please don't, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it," Jubilee clung to her feircly. "Please get better. I need you, and Wolvie needs you more. You didn't see him, you didn't see how upset he got...."

The winged woman gasped for breath, her chest heaving as she murmured in her native tongue.

"Please, please," Jubee said softly, hanging onto her and stroking her hair. "Please... don't be scared. Please calm... you have to let yourself heal...."

Her only reply was a breathless cry of pain and then a sudden silence and stillness.

"Please," Jubee held onto her and rocked her. "Wolvie, please come back, plase hold her.... God, please, please don't take her.... Wolvie needs her so bad...."

Several hours later

She woke to warm bodies on either side of her and soft breathing. Anmut was warmer now, though not close to her usual brick oven heat, and one wing covered Jubilee and the person sleeping against her back.

She squirmed and looked over her shoulder, her eyes widening in shock and delight she she saw Sir James' face.

"Wolvie," she breathed against her bandages, slowly turning and snuggling into his front, happy to have him here.

He rumbled softly and put his arms around her without waking, his face coming to rest on her head.

"You care," she grinned as she snuggled in, listening to his heart and smiling as an incredibal warmth filled her.
