Icy shivered slightly as the cold autumn rain pattered down on her and trickled down her back, though she was oblivious to the chill. Her large eyes tracked the lights of the cars far below, then turned up to watch an airplane go over before closing as she softly murmured a prayer in the language of her birth. "(Master, keep my friend. Please help her to return to her roost soon. And comfort her mate and her clan.)"

She sighed and looked down again, her fine hair clinging sodden to her head, then unfurled her wings and poised to leap.

"Are you sure that is a good idea?" a soft voice from the shadows asked.

The tiny girl squeaked and wound up clinging to the wall with all six sets of claws as she stared toward the voice. It took her a moment before she was calm enough to reply. "I need to practise."

"Sorry I scared you, it was not my intention," she said, bowing slightly. "Perhaps you would like a spotter for your practise?"

"Ah... spotter?" Her eyes went bewildered, and even though like all gargoyles she had no eyebrows it seemed like she was lifting them.

"Yes... you know... somebody to look out and make sure you don't get hurt if you fail the first time," she said.

"Oh...." She scrambled back onto the top of the wall. "Yes, thank you. I would like that."

Then she hesitates. "I... I am Icy."

"Chiyoko," she nodded and smiled slightly, expanding her own giant wings.

The size of those wings earned her a wide-eyed look from the smaller girl, but then Icy shook herself like a dog, sending rainwater flying, and stepped once more to the edge of the wall.

"Fear not the wind. Believe in it, and let it take you soaring," she said gently, smiling.

"In the place where I was hatched the wind was our enemy." Icy turned her face to it as it gusted, fighting the instinctive urge to duck low and cling to something. "In the end it was what took me from everything I knew."

Chiyoko nods slowly. "Here is it our ally. Try to forget your fears, feal the warmth in the breeze. Let it first fill your mind and spirit, and it will always fill your wings."

"Or I could simply give you a good shove," Guinevere said, as she approached the other two new Clan members. She thought for a moment, then spoke again. "I am sorry. That was not very funny. I do not think I should be listening to Brooklyn when trying to appreciate humor."

Icy squeaked and looked up at her friend, then shook her head gravely. "He is only funny when Katana has embarrassed him."

Then she blinked as the rain stopped sprinkling and came down in sheets. "Whoops?"

"A strange concept, I admit, but I find some of the combinations to be quite tasteful."

That and Franklin had introduced to her the peanut butter and banana sandwich, and she was predisposed to like anything Franklin did.

She selected some of the meats, along with some mustard and mayonnaise, and cheese, and began work on construction a sandwich for herself that would have done even the most ferocious of carnivores proud.

A strong odor suddenly filled the kitchen as Icy discovered a cheese and unwrapped it. "Ohhhh!"

Chiyoko had followed the older Garg's lead, slowly mimicking her makings and looking over. "That does not smell bad."

Guinevere's nose twitched and she nodded. "Indeed. It smells... quite good."

"I could eat it all myself," Icy confessed as she turned to hand it to her red-haired sister.

"You may have my portion," Chiyoko said to the tiny one.

"Take all that you want, I do not mind."

"I am not a pig." She offered a shy smile, then went back to close the fridge door.

"I meant no offense, it is just that you seem most eager to eat it," Chiyoko's eyes went wide.

Guin smiled slightly. "I too, meant no offense. My sandwich will be sufficient."

Granted, her sandwich included ham, roast beef, turkey, salami, three kinds of cheese, and copious amounts of mustard and mayonnaise, so perhaps she was not one to talk.

"I was trying to be amusing," said Icy mournfully.
