Optimus sat beneath the tree on the overlook and stared down past the feild below it, his optics seeking toward Mission City as his CPU went over the information he'd just been sent.

Elita stirs slightly from where she's sitting next to him leaning against his leg, and he looks down, one hand going around her tenderly as he thinks how much better she's looking with Ratchet's repairs and upgrades.

Speak of the devil....

Ratchet wanders over and lowers himself to the ground with a sigh, then belts Ironhide in the leg as that worthy mech slaps him in the head in passing.

Jazz peeks his head in and smiles at the scene before him then clears his throat. "What up boss?"

"Have a seat, Jazz." Optimus's voice is heavy, and he doesn't even smile at the chain of woven grass that Elita ties around his wrist.

This is definitely not good. Jazz sits down carefully, keeping his eyes on Optimus. "What is wrong, sir?"

"We've gotten the highest readings of Decepticon activity in the area under the main library," notes Optimus, frowning. "Roach would probably be a useful addition to the team."

"Safeties on, my aft." Ironhide scowls.

Jazz nods. "Little guy will fit right in. Anything else I need ta know before I start setting up?"

"Do you have the sewer plan?" Optimus absently rubs Elita's back as she moves to frown at Ironhide, who notices the look and goes dead silent.

A few hours later the group arrives at the old library. It's a very large, very old building, perfect hiding place for a lot of very small bots.

Jazz's holodriver steps out of the car to survey the area. "I'm not pickin' up much activity in the first and second levels. Nothin' Decepticon anyway."

"Not much human, either," Arcee chuckled, her own holodriver sitting up and looking around.

"Can't tell until we get down in the sewer what's runnin' about." The car that is the real him melts away behind him and the hard light particles gather into the human forms body as Jazz wanders over to pop open a man hole cover.

"Ladies and Roaches first?"

Chittering angrily, they go for Jazz as well.

"Get offa me ya little glitches!" Jazz grunts with annoyance and turns into a smaller version of his bot mode. "We're just here for Frenzy. We-erk- wanna talk!"

"Killing...." Riveted by Jazz's words, the little 'Con doesn't hear Arcee's. Her head turns as she beeps and clicks in Cybertronian. The reply makes her tremble.

Then her optics flash. "Just go away and leave us be! We weren't bothering you!"

"Frenzy declared war on the humans. We had to come check out why."

The tiny femme trembles in Jazz's hand, then looks up at him with wary pinpoint optics as she beeps randomly.

Then she looks at her brothers and sisters and trills, still not speaking but assuring them that she's alright nonetheless.

He easily rights her and places her back on the ground. "I guess you are. Sorry I moved so quickly."

The speaker's crossed optics narrow. "Lord Frenzy says this is his empire. Our home. We're not going to go and be a bunch of Autobot lackies."

"I'm not saying thats what we gonna do. Ask any bot that lives with us. They don't have to do a damn thing for us." He looks around at the gutters and pipes. "Frenzy, think, how many of your kids have died of things you know woulda been avoided if they lived in a cleaner enviroment, where they could get proper care and stronger bodies?"

Optimus is leaning over the computer monitor when they come in, switching back and forth between two different screens and discussing them quietly with Ratchet, Ironhide, and Chromia.

Jazz is still feeling lower than dirt when he gets in. "Hey, Op. We found Frenzy...what's on the screens?"

"Hmmm?" He straightens as Ironhide and Ratchet make sounds of surprise.

"They really are his kids. I dunno how or why, but they got sparks, and have thoughts and feelin'." He chuckles. "Why one was even very angry about us makin' fun of them."

The CMO sets the little Decepticon into the smaller mech's hand, then pauses with a finger out to make sure he doesn't try to run away, but Screwloose only props himself up so that he's sitting somewhat like a dog and starts washing his face with his first set of legs.

Jazz laughs and purrs at the little critter. "Be right back boss."

And with that he runs out of the base and transforms so the little bot is tucked safely inside.

"You'd rather hurt, and risk permanent spark damage?" asks Ratchet acerbically. It's almost like his old snarkiness.

"No." He grins. "Doesn't mean I can't complain."
