Vanya blinked rapidly as she materialized on the very sunny, very hot, and very nice island of Hawaii. The rolled-up contract was still clutched in her hands and she smiled slightly to herself.

It was amusing how she was getting involved in silly human ceremonies.

And, she admitted, it was very nice of Joy and Kurt to have invited her. The sun was hot enough that she took off her long red coat, revealing a smart black,sleeveless dress underneath. Lately the daylight had been not just bearable, but enjoyable.

It was good, she mused, that she'd actually get to take part in her friends' special day.

She looked around for the other Kurt and his loudmouth wife (who seemed to have mellowed out lately, except for when the men of her house decided to talk about her underwear selections). They shouldn't have arrived too far from where she was.

Kurt stood several meters away, his eyes on the ocean and his chin resting on Sal's head as he hugged her back against himself and just relaxed and prayed for a moment.

Sal was silent for a few moments, and she stood as though dazed.

"It's... I'm not cold."

She beamed.

He looked at her thoughtfully, then led his wife across the sandy ground toward the little house, mounting the steps and knocking gently on the door.

There was the faint clatter of silverware, then footsteps, and Kurt opened the door, blining before grinning broadly. "Mien freunds!" he said, grabbing his counterpart's hand and shaking it earnestly, before taking Sal's hand and kissing her knuckles, then opening and ushering them inside with a broad grin and wink to Vanya.

"Velcome, ve vere just sitting to breakfast. Vould you like some? Ve haff omlettes und toast und bacon...."

"I also know somevone of your people," said Kurt, smiling. "Her name is Ving, und she's married to the son of some fruiends of mine."

"Och," said Joy, her mixed accent now readily apparent. "Tis only half I be. Me moeder vas 'o t' Zeevolk."

Kurt looked at his wife with a chuckle, then turned to his alternate and nodded. "Ja. There aren't any rules against it. Meine license isn't from this reality, but ve've got a contract that vill be binding in any reality."

"Och," said Joy, ears going back. "I hadnae thoucht 'o t' realities. 'N I dinnae technically exist, either."

"I know," he said softly, giving her a smile that showed more of sadness than the emotion it was designed to portray. "I've just met a lot of people lately who do."

"Why don't you just shoot them back?" She looked absolutely horrified that he wouldn't.

Then she coughed. "Anyway... that's not what today is about."

Vanya just shrugged, finding herself alone in the living room with the preacher.

"You seemed quite alarmed to see me when I came to fetch you," she said quietly, leaning over the table to pour her third cup of coffee.

"I'd been dreaming before I voke," he said quietly, listening to Sal and Joy's voices from the bedroom.

This time Vanya flinched visibly, but didn't say much.

"Assets...." Joy looked over her shoulder and blinked at how the seams of the dress gently and tastefully accented her bottom. "Ach!" She moved her tail in an attempt to hold the skirt away, but there wasn't enough room.

Kurt saw how Joy stood there in her dress and understood.

"So, should ve go to the beach?" he asked, turning a shoulder toward the soon to be married pair and looking at Vanya. "Or stay in the shade of the trees? Maybe stand in the shallows of the ocean?"

Joy looked up at her fiance, ears flicking uncertainly but then sweeping forward as she saw the look on his face.

"Ach," she said softly, her bay-brown cheeks darkening as she cloaked herself nervously in her wings.

Kurt chuckled and joined her, his eyes dancing at her wonder. "I love the vater here."

Joy was blushing furiously, but put her hand trustingly into her fiance's and nodded.

Kurt straightened unconsciously and indicated that Vanya should stand closer, then bowed his head and committed the proceedings to God's hands, asking Him for the ability to get everything right and to bless the two who were coming together today.

Joy stood tall and proud, her misgivings forgotten as she cloaked herself in her wings but left them open in the front, making for a very exotic effect.

Vanya put down the camera and let the newlyweds kiss. She wasn't going to give them the indignity of having a camera in their face.

She grinned over at them.

And tried so very hard not to think of Daniel.

Joy closed her eyes as Kurt kissed her, then cocked an eye at the others and suddenly enveloped Kurt and herself in her wings.

Vanya grinned. "Congratulations," she said.

Kurt signed on his line, then pressed the dark spot on the corner of the document and handed the two small chips it became to the new couple. "Congratulations!"

Sal shrugged. "It's your call," she said.

"Ve don't vant to intrude," said Kurt, looking further along the beach and clearly thinking thoughts of taking his lady for a romantic walk.
