Helena was beginning to get depressed.  She'd tried--several times--to get home, all without success.  She was already missing her teammates--not to mention hoping to God that they weren't going out of their mind with worry about her.  And frankly, this Gotham was too different, too strange, too far ahead of her own for her to ever be comfortable here.

"I just want to go home," she muttered.  "Or to do something useful... Why the heck am I even here?"

"Oh!" said a young voice from the door, sounding surprised.

Helena looked surprise at the sound of the voice, and looked toward the source of it.

"Er... hello?"

Soft blue eyes looked at her from under straight-cut black bangs. It was a girl of about twelve years old; a strong but slender little creature with long black hair and maybe a familiarity about her.

"Who... who are you?" She frowned uncertainly, one hand closing over the front of her pale blue 'Princess' T-shirt.

Something was naggingly familiar about the girl, but nothing Helena could place at the moment.

"I'm Helena. Brenda's letting me stay here until I can get back home."

"Superman, Supergirl, and Young Lobo," said Conner as Clara hugged Narmo and got a grin in response.

"Wait, if you're Superman, then who was the Clark I met?"

"Robin, usually."

"She was my cousin," said Conner softly. "Sure I knew her."

Helena picks up on what's being unsaid here. "I'm sorry."

"It was a long time ago. Before Cal went." He shrugged slightly, then remembered the look on Kara's face the time she'd time traveled and wound up in their time and chuckled inadvertently.

"Brenda and Clark thought you'd work it out on your own," said Clara shyly.

"Hmph. Some detective I am."

"There's a lot of new stuff to take in," said Clark sympathetically, his expression showing no sign that he was slapping the snickering Narmo in the back of the head as he said it.

The dog with the hat put it into her hand, then flopped down and grinned at her while his brother leaned against her and panted happily.

Helena placed the hat aside and continued petting and rubbing on the dogs. "Who's a couple good boys? Huh? You are!"

"A couple of proper rapscallions," said Prudence with a chuckle as she came to see why Deuce hadn't brought her hat back yet. A large, beautiful spotted cat danced at her heels, his golden eyes daring the dogs, who ignored him in favor of their new playmate.

"Though the first time we met I took her for an intruder to Master Bruce's home and attacked her." Prudence scratched her cheek to cover a slight smile as she remembered.

Helena smiled as well. "Heh. Probably learned as much about fighting from Mom as I did from Dad... She was the one who taught me about fighting dirty."

Prudence nodded and looked out over the grounds. "She took me under her wing, and at one point had intentions to adopt my younger brother."

"I suppose that I should go in and start lunch," she mused, looking up at the sunshiny sky as the dogs bounded up and started running dizzy circles around she and Helena.

"Let me come give you a hand," Helena said. "Frankly, I need the practice. I spend way too much time eating take out."

"I would be glad of the company, but don't really require assistance, thank you." Prudence smiled at her.

Any of her family would have fallen over at the sight. Offers to help in Pru's kitchen usually got much more brisk refusals.

The redhaired woman was humming softly as she came out; a song from when she was young and which she'd enjoyed greatly before finally forgetting it with the passage of the centuries. She felt content; more than she had been for some time. The memories that Helena had evoked were sweet, though the people in them were so long gone.

Helena smiled as Prudence returned. Looks like she was doing some good after all.

"You sure I can't help?"

"Quite, thank you, Miss." She smiled at her and set the cookie jar, milk pitcher, and a glass on the counter by the stool.
