She stood there, invisable in the broad light of day, and watched Sam, her turquoise eyes intent and a little sad. Behind her on the ground lay the remains of the thing that had tried sneaking up on him unawares, but she had no interest in her kill. Things like that weren't food. You only killed them to keep the world from stinking and to protect your own.

Sam was just standing there. His thoughts were closed, so she couldn't talk to him, but she was content to just watch over him for now.

Sam knew she was there but his mind was on other things. As in the fact that he hadn't been here in... well, he couldn't figure out how long. He'd come here for a reason though. Right... weapons. One of the main reasons why he'd come. Maybe even at some point during the visit even pay his respects if he could even manage to get himself to that point.

Either way it was a scary thought... he was home.

Zanoah lifted her head and looked toward where the alpha hunkered down a long ways away and watched his memories, then looked up at a hawk that was flying overhead. She closed her eyes as she felt the flow of wind over pinions and the intricate play of wing and tail, then shook herself vigorously and gripped the earth with her claws before perking her ears toward Sam again. There were things watching. Just small things, and afraid of her. If he didn't need her right now she wanted to go and clean out that stink.

He sighes and stands, feeling as though he's tearing out roots as he moves. So many memories bind him to this spot, even though it's not really the spot where his own journey had started. Halfway there he pauses and looks down at the remains of something and quirks an eyebrow before looking at Zanoah and continuing to where she stands beside his son.

"I'm not exactly sure where he hid it but... you know. He had a ton of hiding spots."

Several Hours later

John has zoned out to the music and is sleeping surprisingly soundly, head tipped to one side and face peaceful.

Zanoah looks at him from where she sits on the floor with her head and upper body between the front seats, then turns and gives Sam a gentle nudge on the shoulder with her nose. -Squished gopher.-

Sam shakes his head a bit before stopping the Impala out front of an old house. Shutting the car off he didn't even bother waking John. Keep an eye on him Zanoah.

Hours Later

Sam had come out to Zanoah running laps around the Impala and shakes his head. Once she'd gotten back in he'd headed off again. "Well... Missouri says that Dean hid 'em in four different places. One of them..." He stops short of his words and kind of closes himself off a bit. Yeah... what fun.

"One of them?" John looks at him soberly as Zanoah whimpers softly and reaches between the seats to lick his face.

"It might affect how we access the cach."

"It won't, dad."

John looks around the crowded little place, then gently slaps Sam in the side with the back of his hand and indicates an empty booth in the back corner.

Sam notes where he's indicating and takes them to the booth in the back corner. He just hopes there is no one there that recognizes anyone from his family.

He takes in a breath and looks out the window, absently smiling again as the waitress brings over the coffee and two cups, then listening to her walk away. "They're probably wondering about him in my reality too. Even being with someone didn't stop his flirting."

Then he quirks an eyebrow as someone walks right past Zanoah without reacting.

Sam gives the waitress a small smile before giving a nod. "Dean wasn't with anyone. He just simply flirted a lot."

"It has no place on burgers," states John firmly, taking a sip of black coffee and then picking up his knife and fork.

"Well, then I must not be a true Winchester then." He states teasingly before picking up his utensils and cutting into his food.

"Did he used to hide from you and then tickle you?"

"Sometimes. But Dean got a bit too serious at times too. Especially since he was playing big brother and protector."

She blinks and looks at him, then glances at how John is sitting slumped over his meal. Her eyebrows raise slowly. "You mean...?"

The younger Winchester gives a slight nod. "Yeah... exactly what I mean."

There's the thump of an invisable tail as she takes the gift daintily, her whiskers brushing his hand. -Thank you.-

She eats carefully, sighing in relief as she feels the Westward tug easing. It's not a full anchor, but she's safe now.

If Sam pays attention he'll notice that he feels her a little more strongly now.

He gives a slight smile and just waits for John.

-I'm anchored now.- She slips into sight as they pull out of the lot, nose twitching as she sniffs at Sam's coffee. -Bad water....-

"It isn't bad water, its coffee."

John can't help it, those words make him break out into near-silent laughter, his eyes closed and his head leaning back against the seat.

Zanoah turns her head and looks at him. -What?-

"He's finding all of this very amusing is what." Sam states with a shake of his head.

-Squeaky and little and soft.- She wags her tail, grinning. -I like puppies.-

John has fallen silent and is watching the interaction, remembering how his son and daughter used to argue and discuss things nearly constantly.

"They're not squeak toys though." Sam states finishing off his coffee and setting the cup in the back floor board until he can throw it away.

He nods and gets out of the car, making sure he's not going to catch Zanoah before he closes the door softly.

Zanoah's just standing there between the seats, watching the house. -Bad water.-

Stop saying that. Sam states before getting out and heading up to the house giving the door a tenative knock.

He indicates a bit of green fluff sticking up from another box, then turns to look at what Sam's found.

"Oh, right." He wouldn't know about his big brother's stuffed animals. He was too busy with the pictures that he'd found.

She's suddenly in her place between the seats, turquoise eyes dark with sympathy. -I'm here.-

"We're going to head back and then go through this stuff."
